Its city is also close enough to the mountains to keep your car at the hotel and use public transit to get to a trailhead. <\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>Check out my post on a great hike from the city, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theramblingrenegade.com\/pittock-mansion-hike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pittock Mansion Hike<\/a>.<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>&#128663; ~2 hours and 50 minutes<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Weekend Trips from Seattle in Winter<\/strong><\/h2><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p><strong>Not exactly a day trip but can easily be an overnight trip! These winter road trips from Seattle are far enough to feel like a getaway but close enough to enjoy.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">14. Mount St. Helens<\/h3><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>Only 96 miles south of Seattle, Mt. St. Helens might spark some adventure within you. <\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>This is the most active volcano in the contiguous United States. Potentially that might derail some from wanting to visit but I find it fascinating! Besides learning all of this volcano&rsquo;s history make sure you make some time for the great outdoors.<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>&#128663; ~3 hours 21 minutes from Seattle<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">15. Cascade Mountains<\/h3><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>The beauty starts from the Scenic byway Highway 20, where you can already start admiring the high peaks and broad lakes. <\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>In the winter the Cascade Mountains transform into a stunning display of icy rivers and frozen-in-time waterfalls. There are also over 300 glaciers to see!<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>&#128663; ~3 hours 55 minutes from Seattle<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">16. Umpqua National Forest<\/h3><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>This is your call for snowshoeing. There are 530 miles of winding, beautiful trails to soak up the winter beauty. <\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>There are areas for snowmobiling, sledding, and any other snow activity you can dream up. Access to Umpqua National Forest can potentially close in more hazardous weather conditions so early winter may be better.<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>&#128663; ~5 hours 35 minutes<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">17. Carson Hot Springs Washington<\/h3><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>Basically, winter heaven, Carson Hot Springs is a must for winter getaways from Seattle. <\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>With their pools maintained at a balmy 98-104 degrees, some say soaking in mineral-laden springs may help soothe and heal your skin. Either way, it&rsquo;s the perfect spot for some much-needed rest and relaxation.<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>&#128663; ~3 hours and 30 minutes from Seattle<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><div style=\"height:31px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to get around<\/strong> Seattle<\/h2><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><div class=\"wp-block-kadence-image kb-image39029_04243d-68\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Seattle Washington USA\" src=\"https:\/\/mindfultravelbysara.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seattle-Washington-USA.jpg\" class=\"kb-img wp-image-32433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mindfultravelbysara.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seattle-Washington-USA.jpg 750w, https:\/\/mindfultravelbysara.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seattle-Washington-USA-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\"><\/figure><\/div><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>While walking is a fantastic way to get around Seattle, there is also great public transportation, bike paths, ferries, and driving of course. <\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p><strong>Seattle<\/strong> has a unique topography which means you might need to go from land to water and back to land to get to certain spots. Regardless, no matter your preference, getting around is pretty easy in this city.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Public Transit<\/strong><\/h3><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By BUS<\/strong><\/h4><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>Seattle&rsquo;s bus system is very easy to manage. You might need to hop on to a couple of different buses depending on where you want to go.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/kingcounty.gov\/en\/dept\/metro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>King County Metro<\/strong><\/a> buses are the main buses you would use to get back and forth across the city. Most routes operate until around 1 AM but there is now a <a href=\"https:\/\/kingcounty.gov\/en\/dept\/metro\/travel-options\/bus\/night-owl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Night Owl Service<\/a> that goes between midnight and 5 AM.<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>FARE- The base fare is $2.75 and the buses won&rsquo;t give change if it&rsquo;s not exact. I&rsquo;d suggest getting a loaded ORCA card from a light rail station or from the airport, or using the <a href=\"https:\/\/kingcounty.gov\/en\/dept\/metro\/fares-and-payment\/ways-to-pay\/transit-go-ticket\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transit GO App<\/a> to get your ticket on your phone.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.soundtransit.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Sound Transit <\/strong><\/a>buses are another option for bus travel if you need to get further outside of Seattle&rsquo;s city limits. While King Country Metro operates within the city, Sound Transit goes as far north as Everett, as far south as Tacoma and DuPont, and as far east as Sammamish and Issaquah.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By RAIL<\/strong><\/h4><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattlemonorail.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Seattle Monorail<\/strong><\/a> is seen mostly as a touristy thing to do. There&rsquo;s only one stop so it&rsquo;s hard to get lost using it. The Monorail goes from Westlake Center Station to Seattle Center Station.<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/kingcounty.gov\/en\/dept\/metro\/travel-options\/rail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Streetcars<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>can be useful if you are staying near one of the lines. Whether you are simply trying to get to Kitsap Peninsula across from Seattle, or you&rsquo;d rather just enjoy the beautiful landscape, the<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wsdot.wa.gov\/travel\/washington-state-ferries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>ferries<\/strong><\/a> are easy to use. Expect to pay just under $10 for your ticket.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Water Taxis<\/strong><\/h4><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/kingcounty.gov\/en\/dept\/metro\/travel-options\/water-taxi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Water Taxis<\/strong><\/a> don&rsquo;t offer the ability to drive on (like they do for the ferries) but they do offer a convenient option if you are downtown Seattle. Connecting Pier 50 to West Seattle or Vashon Island, you can get around for $2-$7.<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Other transportation Ideas<\/strong><\/h3><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>There are plenty of bike\/scooter shares around that I love to use. <\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>Also, can&rsquo;t stress enough how nice of a city it is to walk in&mdash;plenty of tiny nooks and crannies in the city to explore by foot. Taking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amtrak.com\/stations\/sea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amtrak train<\/a> is also an easy way to get a bit further outside of the city.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seattle <strong>Travel tips<\/strong><\/h2><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><li>I may have not realized before but let me remind you, Seattle is hilly. It&rsquo;s a very easy city to bike around but expect to use that leg power.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><li>The Sound Link Light Rail is an easy way to beat Seattle traffic to get from the airport to downtown.<\/li>\n<\/ul><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><li>The weather can be unpredictable! Close to plenty of great bars and restaurants.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Boutique Option<\/h4><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>Hotel Andr&auml;- This adorable boutique hotel is inspired by Seattle&rsquo;s Nordic heritage at a price that doesn&rsquo;t make your heart stop.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Downtown <\/strong><\/h3><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>(Near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theramblingrenegade.com\/pike-place-market-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pike Place Market<\/a>)- It can be a bit of a concrete jungle if you&rsquo;re not paying attention to the exact location. But staying closer to the Pike Place Market will give you the best of the downtown area. It&rsquo;s a great option if you&rsquo;re considering using the ferries for some day trips.<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Luxury Option<\/h4><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>The Inn at the Market- There&rsquo;s little to complain about with great views of Puget Sound and being able to walk right out to Pikes Place Market.<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Boutique Option<\/h4><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>The State Hotel- This historic hotel was built in 1902 and is just around the corner from Pikes Place. Local artists are featured throughout the hotel by helping decorate the grounds!<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Capitol Hill<\/strong><\/h3><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>A great location for thrift store shopping, adorable boutiques, great restaurants, and coffee shops galore, it has everything. It&rsquo;s your &ldquo;hipster&rdquo; neighborhood with lots of music venues and bars to explore. Everything is within close proximity to downtown Seattle.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bed &amp; Breakfast<\/h4><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>Gaslight Inn- Built in the early 1900s, this bed-and-breakfast features 8 rooms rich in dark hues and wooden touches. Some rooms have a cute balcony while others have cozy fireplaces.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mid-Range Option&nbsp;<\/h4><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>Silver Cloud Hotel- Maybe not the most exciting option but this hotel has a good location within Capitol Hill and offers guests an on-site restaurant.&nbsp;<\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When to go<\/strong><\/h2><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>The best time to visit Seattle will depend upon what you&rsquo;re looking to do. <\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>Between October and November, if you manage to dodge the holidays, you can really good hotel deals. <\/p><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><?xml encoding=\"UTF-8\"><p>Late winter (March), you&rsquo;ll be able to dodge holiday crowds as well as find some great hotel deals.
