Ha Long Bay
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
Ha Long Bay is one of the most popular UNESCO World Heritage sites in Vietnam with the name of the island having a majestic meaning that translates in English to descending dragon. Along with the Angkor Temples in Cambodia, are two of the most beautiful places I visited in Asia.
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
Ancient legend states that the Vietnamese were invaded and their gods sent dragons as their allies to fight alongside them in combat.
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
There are over 1,900 limestone inlets that enhance the beauty of its overall tropical climate. The dragons in the old folklore had spat out jade jewels that eventually turned into limestone inlets. Of course, this is all ancient legend without much true backing to the story, so it’s just a pretty story to go alongside the allure of the World Heritage site.
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
Only 40 islands of the more than 1,900 of them have people living on them. If you go to one of the populated islands that are floating fishing villages on Ha Long Bay, you can enjoy fishing, boat tours of the area, and the freshest seafood meals nearby.
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">

<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
2. My Son Sanctuary
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
My Son Sanctuary is rooted in Indian Hinduism primarily steeped in its cultural influence between the 4th and 13th centuries. It was designated as one of Vietnam’s UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1999.
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
The towers at the sanctuary took 10 centuries to amass during the rule of the Dua Clan. These towers honor the Hindu gods and the pureness of their overall symbol, Mount Meru.
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
Such architecture is thanks to the Cham people who eventually joined with the Dua Clan over the centuries of the towers being erected.
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
6. Citadel of the Ho Dynasty
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
The Citadel of the Ho Dynasty is one of Vietnam’s other UNESCO World Heritage sites that was designated as such in 2011. Originally built in 1397, it contains the Inner Citadel, the Nam Giao Altar, and the La Thanh Outer Wall.
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
The overall site was known as the capital of Vietnam between 1398 to 1407 as Buddhist practices were more common until advances in technology made it so that the Citadel of the Ho Dynasty was no longer Vietnam’s capital.
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
Explore the ins and outs of the citadel on a self-guided or guided tour to be immersed in part of Vietnam’s history.
<?xml encoding="UTF-8"><?xml encoding="UTF-8">
7.
