Thanks to my sister-in-law living in Savannah for a few years<\/strong>, I had the perfect excuse to visit this gorgeous city! <\/p>

I think it’s one of the best weekend getaways on the East Coast<\/strong><\/a>. We even added a stop in Savannah when road-tripping to Disney World<\/strong><\/a> once. <\/p>

While I’ve been lucky enough to spend several days checking everything out, spending a day in Savannah GA is well worth the trip<\/strong>. <\/p>

There are plenty of fun things to do in Savannah in one day, so let’s get to it!<\/p>

One Day Savannah Itinerary<\/h2>

There’s so much to do here<\/strong><\/a> that you won’t have any trouble at all filling up a one-day trip to Savannah GA. <\/p>

From historic sites and beautiful scenery to delicious food and even a spooky ending to the day, this 1 day in Savannah itinerary<\/strong> hits quite a bit! <\/p>

Here’s how to get the most out of spending a day in Savannah GA<\/strong>:<\/p>

1. Grab a coffee at The Collins Quarter at Forsyth Park<\/strong><\/h3>

While you can also sit down to eat here, you can’t beat grabbing a coffee to go<\/strong> and enjoying the beautiful scenery surrounding you. <\/p>

In addition to classic coffee orders, The Collins Quarter also offers signature coffees <\/strong>(hello, spiced lavender mocha!). They even have their own house syrups to add to any order. <\/p>

To top it off, it’s located right in the middle of a Savannah must-see: Forsyth Park<\/strong><\/a>, a beautiful 30-acre park. <\/p>

2. Take a morning walk through Forsyth Park<\/strong><\/h3>

Now that you have a coffee in hand, take time to wander through Forsyth Park. <\/p>

There’s nothing like the calmness of this park in the morning<\/strong>. Lined with giant oak trees covered with Spanish moss, this is the picture-perfect spot. <\/p>

There are some interesting facts about the park that many travelers may not know. <\/p>

Did you know that the park’s original design was based on the Place des Vosges in Paris? And the iconic fountain at the park’s center was actually manufactured in New York? <\/strong><\/p>

There are several Civil War cannons<\/strong> still on display in the park that were donated by the U.S. government after the war. <\/p>

If you’re traveling with young kids<\/strong><\/a>, there’s also a fun playground where they can run around while you relax. <\/p>

To me, this park is quintessential Savannah<\/strong>, which is why it’s at the top of my list of what to see in Savannah GA<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>

3. Eat an early lunch at Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room<\/strong><\/h3>

If you visit Savannah on a weekday<\/strong>, you can’t miss eating lunch here. While the restaurant opens at 11:00 AM, a line will begin to form about 45-60 minutes before that. <\/p>

Once a boarding house in the mid-1900s, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room<\/strong><\/a> now serves guests delicious Southern food<\/strong>. Make sure to come hungry! <\/p>

And waiting in line is a great place to make friends with the neighbors of the historic center. <\/p>

This restaurant serves family-style food<\/strong>, and you’ll be seated at large tables with the people standing near you in line. This place is part of Savannah’s history!<\/p>

4. Stroll through the Savannah squares <\/strong><\/h3>

You can’t visit Savannah without taking the time to enjoy the squares throughout the city<\/strong>. The city is set up as a grid with 22 historic squares<\/strong> spread throughout. <\/p>

Don’t miss Lafayette Square<\/strong> (one of my favorites), and Chippewa Square<\/strong><\/a>, located along Bull Street, in the heart of Savannah. This square was laid out in 1815 and is named after a battle during the War of 1812. <\/p>

But it really became well-known after the iconic park bench scene from the movie Forrest Gump was filmed there<\/strong>. <\/p>

5. Take in the historic sites on your day trip to Savannah<\/strong><\/h3>

With only one day in Savannah GA, you probably won’t have time to visit all of these places, but you can definitely check out the exteriors while strolling around the city. <\/p>

If you’ve found Chippewa Square, several well-known sights are nearby<\/strong>, including the Savannah Theatre<\/strong>, the Cathedral Basilica of St. John<\/strong>, the Colonial Park Cemetery, Bonaventure Cemetery<\/strong><\/a>, and the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters<\/strong>. <\/p>
